The life sciences include bioinformatics, drug discovery, genetics, botany, ecology and zoology. ZCHPC has endeavoured to work with universities, pharmaceutical companies, and healthcare and biotechnology organisations to accelerate discoveries. Simulation, molecular modelling, data management, next generation sequencing are increasingly common in life science disciplines and they all rely on a robust combination of big data analytics and high performance computing To further enhance the Ministry of Higher and Tertiary Education, Science and Technology Developments , priority programs, the ZCHPC is offering computational services for DNA forensic investigation , cryopreservation and genetic disease screening.

a. Computational Chemistry

Computational chemistry has undergone signifficant improvements with the advent of supercomputing. With the rapid development of molecular and structural biology, the 3D structures and functions of biological macromolecules have been determined. Many methods such as molecular dynamic simulations and molecular modelling are being accelerated by the use of ZCHPC system. Researchers in chemistry are using the system to work on drug virtual screening projects

b. Drug Design and Discovery

The use of HPC helps in reducing the time and cost of drug design and discovery. This allows the development of personalised medicines by processing patient medical data. The ZCHPC is facilitating drug discovery in molecular modelling, drug design approaches and pharmacophore modelling. Data driven models of human disease progression and drug response using drug design and screening, facilitate the development of novel drugs. By applying HPC, these technology platforms are able to produce biomedical data with increased speed.
